What bulb size does my car take?
Every vehicle uses a specific bulb size for each light, and they are not interchangeable: an H11 won’t fit a 9005 socket, and a 194 won’t fit a 3157 socket. That is why the first step is knowing exactly what your make, model and year take.
LuzCoche has the bulb size chart for each generation of each model: low beam, high beam, fog lights, turn signals, parking lights, brake lights, backup lights, license plate and dome lights. Next to each one we show the best-rated bulbs in stock on Amazon today.
The most common sizes on US vehicles are H11 and 9006 (low beam), 9005 (high beam), H11 and H10 (fog), 194 (parking, side marker and plate) and 3157 or 7443 (turn signal, brake and tail).
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out what bulb size my car takes?
Search your make, model and year on LuzCoche to see the chart with the bulb for every light. You can also check the owner’s manual (bulb replacement section) or read the size printed on the base of the old bulb.
Is 9005 the same as HB3?
Yes. 9005 and HB3 are two names for the same bulb (P20d base, 60 W). Likewise 9006 is HB4, and 194 is the US name for W5W.
Are LED headlight bulbs street legal?
In the US, LED retrofit bulbs installed in housings designed for halogen bulbs are not considered compliant with federal lighting standards for on-road use. High-performance halogen bulbs are the legal way to get more light.
Should I replace headlight bulbs in pairs?
Yes. If one has burned out, the other has the same wear and will follow soon. Replacing both keeps the light output and color even on both sides.
