Which H15 to buy: standard, brighter or long life
- Standard: the OEM-equivalent replacement. The cheapest option and the longest lasting.
- Brighter (+100% to +200%): they throw more light, farther down the road (Philips RacingVision, Sylvania SilverStar ultra, Osram Night Breaker…). They last a bit less: replace them in pairs.
- Long life: made for high-mileage drivers or headlights that are hard to get to (Philips LongLife, Sylvania Basic, Osram Ultra Life).
- Whiter light: a cooler, xenon-like tone that stays street legal. They give up a little performance in rain and fog.
Before switching to LED, check which LED headlight bulbs are street legal and under what conditions.

Frequently asked questions
What is a H15 bulb?
The H15 is a 55/15 W, 12 V automotive bulb with a PGJ23t-1 base. It’s also sold as 64176 and 12580.
Is the H15 the same as the H16?
No. Even if they look alike, each size has a different base (PGJ23t-1 on the H15) and won’t fit another size’s socket. Always buy the exact size your car takes.
Can I replace a H15 with an LED?
Not in a headlight designed for halogen bulbs: in the US, LED retrofit bulbs in halogen headlamp housings are not DOT / FMVSS 108 compliant for on-road use and can cause glare or issues at a state inspection. For more light, choose a high-performance halogen.
